Bel·leau Wood
A forested area of northern France east of Château-Thierry. In World War I it was the site of a hard-fought victory over the Germans (June 1918), and it now contains a cemetery dedicated to the Americans who died in the battle.

Belleau Wood
Belleau Wood (bĕl'ō, bĕlō'), forested area in Aisne dept., N France, E of Château-Thierry. The scene of a victory over the Germans after hard fighting (June 6-25, 1918), involving chiefly U.S. troops, it was dedicated in 1923 as a permanent memorial to the American war dead.
