The Battle of Belmont is the name of an engagement of the Second Boer War in the town of Belmont, 23 November 1899, where the British under Lord Methuen assaulted a Boer position on a nearby hill. The Boers, under Commander J. Prinsloo, fled along the train line to the next station at Graspan.
