Battle of Five Forks
The last major battle of the Civil War, fought on April 1, 1865, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, between Union forces under Gen. Philip H. Sheridan and Confederates under Gen. George E. Pickett. The gains of the Union victory were instrumental in forcing Robert E. Lee to abandon the defense of Richmond.
