The Battle of Happrew was a skirmish which took place around February 1304, during the First War of Scottish Independence. A small force of Scots led by Sir William Wallace and Sir Simon Fraser encountered an army of English knights, under Sir John Segrave, at Happrew, near Peebles, which had been sent on a raid south from Dunfermline. The Scots were defeated.[1]

Wallace and Fraser, however, escaped, although Wallace was soon to be captured and executed in 1305.

Location

The action took place in the vicinity of Coordinates: 55°39′15″N 3°17′58″W / 55.65417°N 3.29944°W / 55.65417; -3.29944. Current maps provide locations for Easter Happrew and Wester Happrew. The coordinate supplied is equidistant from both of these. The precise location of the skirmish is not thought to be known.
