Also called the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, a major Civil War battle in May, 1864, that was part of Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign. Forces under Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee fought for two weeks without a conclusive outcome; Grant continued his campaign, and both sides suffered casualties of more than 10, 000.
