battle of Tenerife
Tenerife, battle of, 1657. On 20 April 1657 Blake won his last great victory, attacking a force of sixteen Spanish vessels at harbour in Santa Cruz, protected by shore batteries. Every enemy vessel was destroyed and all Blake's ships, some of them badly damaged, survived.
