Review

Sequel Records pits two popular East Coast groups in a mythical musical confrontation. Soul Generation comes out jabbing with their Ebony Sound recordings with two B-sides -- "Mandingo Woman" and "Young Bird" -- the only omissions. They rely heavily on a candy falsetto and use a more pleasing second tenor sparingly. "Body & Soul" is sugary and over-arranged, but the saccharin works on "Praying for a Miracle," "Million Dollars," "Wait So Long," and the Young Rascals' "Ray of Hope." Answering the bell with more firing power, fueled by member Glenn Dorsey's songs, and a more charismatic falsetto, the Joneses win this match hands down with pleasers like "Baby (There's Nothing You Can Do)," "Pretty, Pretty," "Mary, Mary," and "Pull My String."
