US Military Dictionary: Battle of the Resaca de la Palma

The battle that followed the Battle of Palo Alto, on May 9, 1846, near the Rio Grande in Texas, during the Mexican War. Mexican troops defended a line near an old path along the Rio Grande called the Resaca de la Palma, disputed territory between the United States and Mexico. American Gen. Zachary Taylor took the offensive and broke through Mexican lines in a decisive victory.
