battle of Wrotham Heath

Wrotham Heath, battle of, 1554. Widespread risings against Mary's marriage to Philip of Spain did not take place as planned, but Sir Thomas Wyatt managed to rouse considerable numbers in Kent. Part of his force under Sir Henry Isley was caught at Wrotham Heath, between Sevenoaks and Rochester, on 28 January, and dispersed by Sir Robert Southwell, sheriff of the county. The remainder went on to threaten London, but the rebellion collapsed in early February.
