Baude Fastoul

Baude Fastoul (fl. 13th c.). Picard trouvère. Seventy years after Bodel, probably in 1272, Baude Fastoul likewise wrote a congé shortly before death in an Arras leper colony. At 696 lines in 48 strophes d' Hélinand, Fastoul's poem slightly exceeds Bodel's, whose horrific realism and expressions of friendship and faith it shares and develops with intermittent grotesque humour.

[Peter Davies]
