BBC Blast is the BBC's network of creative teenagers. It provides access to mentors both online and in free events and workshops across the UK. With opportunities to showcase talent, enter competitions and get exclusive creative experiences such as work experience, it's the place for teenagers to get creative. Although, the website specifically caters for 13 to 19 year olds, the BBC Blast project also runs a variety of work experience schemes for young adults between the ages of 18 to 25, who are just taking their first steps into the creative industries. Blast has been running since 2002.

Blast Online
The BBC Blast website is a destination for young people to upload their artwork and general creativity, grouped under the projects main headings of art and design, dance and drama, fashion, games, music, and writing. Users can upload their work, and comment on and rate other people's. The website also has a safely moderated forum for users to interact about their creativity, and even talk to Blast Creative Trainees. Furthermore, the website is the hub for booking workshops on the Blast Tour, and finding some of the content that was produced there.
Blast Tour
Every year the Blast Truck visits a number of cities across the UK. There are a number of free creative workshops and events that vary from destination to destination. The Events section of the website provides the workshop schedules for the locations and also showcases the creative work made including music, films, animations, fashion, dance, poetry, radio shows, and much more.
The tour features workshops and talks with stars from a variety of backgrounds, including rapper Akala, director and actor Noel Clarke, 1Xtra DJs Ace and Vis, singer-songwriter Jay Sean, rapper Chipmunk, Panjabi Hit Squad, and many more. The tour tends to feature a variety of talented people at every location it visits.
The tour also promotes a variety of competitions offering money-can't-buy prizes including a performance poetry competition Slambassadors, Hip Hop Shakespeare, and Your Label T-Shirt competition, a unique opportunity for young people to get their design shown at London Fashion Week.
Blast works with a number of partners to put on events and give content a chance to be promoted at a higher level. These partners include the RSC, National Portrait Gallery, National Theatre, Zoo Nation, and the British Film Institute.
In 2009 the tour was due to visit 28 locations. A new addition to the 2009 tour was the advance truck which was a van that ran around 2 weeks ahead of the main tour in order to promote and build excitement for the main truck visit
Work Experience and Creative Traineeships
Every year Blast offers young people the chance to work with Blast for an extended period. Young people can work with Blast as a WEX (work experience), which offers them the chance to work on a tour event helping to plan and facilitate the events. Young people can also embark on a Creative Traineeship where they work with a BBC department for 2 – 3 months getting an insight into the work that their chosen department does. The traineeships are uniquely tailored to the individual in order for them to get the most out of the work they do. Traineeships are offered with BBC Blast's online and events teams, as well as BBC Switch, BBC Radio 1, 1 Xtra, BBC Three, Newsround, and several others. The trainees have even set up a blog on the message boards in order to share their experiences.
