Biography

African-American actress Beatrice Winde built her reputation upon the New York stage, beginning with the searing off-Broadway production In White America (1963). Winde received the Theatre World Award for her performance in Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death. She made several films in the '80s and '90s, including A Rage in Harlem (1991) (actually filmed for the most part in Cincinnati) and Spike Lee's Malcolm X (1992). Billed as Bea Winde, the actress appeared as Lillian Foster in the waning days of the NBC-TV soap opera The Doctors. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Beatrice Winde (January 5, 1924 - January 3, 2004) was an American actress.

Born Beatrice Lucille Williams in Chicago, Illinois, Winde appeared on Broadway in the 1971 Melvin Van Peebles musical Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death, which won her the Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination. Winde's screen appearances include Oliver's Story and Jefferson in Paris and television credits include The Sopranos and Law & Order.

She died of cancer in Manhattan two days before her eightieth birthday.
