Beerwah (pronounced /bɪəwɑː/ or pronounced /bɪəwɔː/) (26°51′20″S 152°57′36″E / 26.85556°S 152.96°E) is a town on the Sunshine Coast hinterland in Queensland, Australia. It is situated north of the town of Glass House Mountains, approximately 80 km north of Brisbane, and just south of Landsborough. Beerwah is most commonly accessed via the newly named Steve Irwin Way (formerly known as the Glasshouse Mountain Tourist Route), off the Bruce Highway, which bypassed the town in 1985. Beerwah is governed by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council. Beerwah is a growing hinterland town, with the Australia Zoo attraction on its doorstep, and transport links to Brisbane and northbound destinations at Beerwah railway station, located along the Nambour and Gympie North railway line. A small bypass is currently being constructed around the town centre, along with a new railway overpass. This will see the existing level crossing closed. The work is expected to be completed in mid-2009.
Beerwah is also home to the famed Australia Zoo, the creation of the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. The zoo has brought immense tourist attraction to the town of Beerwah, and has been named Australia's major tourist attraction many times.
Beerwah has three schools[1]: Beerwah State Primary School, Beerwah State High School, and Glasshouse Country Christian College.
