another airline called Belair operated from Belarus – 1991-1999

Belair (Belair Airlines AG) is a charter airline headquartered in Glattbrugg, Opfikon, Switzerland.[1] It operates charter flights for its parent company Hotelplan and ad hoc charters for third parties. Its main base is Zürich Airport[2].

History

The airline was established and started operations on 3 November 2001. It was formed on the demise of the SAirGroup out of its leisure carrier Balair by one of Balair's largest customers, the holiday tour operator Hotelplan. It has 224 employees (as of December 2008)[2].

In March 2007, Air Berlin acquired a 49 per cent shareholding in Belair (with Hotelplan holding the other 51 per cent), to enable an increase in its activities in the Swiss market.[3]

Since then, Belair belongs to the Air Berlin Group (as LTU International and Niki), operating low cost medium haul flights to holiday destinations. Aside of these scheduled operations, Belair operates extensive charter service (medium to long haul) for Hotelplan.
