Biography

Australian actress Belinda Bauer achieved her brief movie stardom in two interrelated 1979 films. She co-starred as the oversexed wife of nice-guy-turned-louse Jeff Bridges in the filmed-in-Germany The American Success Company (1979), directed by William Richert. The international backers of this film were so impressed by the results that they bankrolled Richert for a second production, Winter Kills (1979); again appearing opposite Jeff Bridges, Bauer appeared in the second film as his love interest. The actress' last top-billed assignment was in the offbeat "motorcycle western" Time Rider (1983). The same year, Belinda Bauer was among the supporting cast of Flashdance (1983), playing the wife of unfaithful Michael Nouri; seven years later, Bauer could be found halfway down the cast list as Dr. Belinda Faxx in Robocop 2 (1990). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Occupation Film television actress

Belinda Jane Bauer (born 13 June 1950) is an Australian actress.

Biography

Starting her career as a ballet dancer and becoming a very successful model in New York, Bauer then became popular in several American cult films of the late 1970s and 1980s including Winter Kills, The American Success Company, Timerider and Flashdance. In between television work, she also appeared in UHF and RoboCop 2.

Her convincing portrayals of hard, vindictive women (including Delilah, in the 1984 television film Samson and Delilah) led to constant typecasting, which may have contributed to the apparent petering out of her career in the mid-1990s.

Bauer played the title role in the TV movie The Sins of Dorian Gray (1983); a rendition of the Oscar Wilde novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. This story was unique as the lead character was a woman.

She also appeared in the pilot of the television series Airwolf as Gabrielle Ademaur, the love interest for Stringfellow Hawke. Her last screen credit was in 1996, with the erotic thriller Poison Ivy II: Lily. She later turned to screenwriting in the United Kingdom, where her credits include Happy Now (2001). She resides in the Los Angeles area, where she works as a psychologist.
