Ben Lomond High School was founded in 1953 and serves northern residents of Ogden, UT, but south of Weber High School's area which is in the town of North Ogden, UT.

History

Orignaly suppose to be called North East Ogedn High School with the school colors as black and red and the mascot beeing the spikers (a reference to the golde spike driven in to the Trans Continental rail road. However at the very first assembly held on the floor of the wood shop (the school was yet to be finished) the students offered up their opinion they. Proposed that sence the school was closest to Ben Lomond it should be named hence. "We wern't going to Ogden High and we didn't want to be called Ogden high" one student recalls fifty years later. After beeing renamed the scott became the Scot natural mascot and the school's colors were changed to red white and blue the colors of tridotnal Scotish uniforms.

Ben Lomond High School gets its name from the nearby Mt. Ben Lomond which was named by Scottish settlers. The mountain resembled their own Ben Lomond in Scotland near Loch Lomond. This local cultural influence gave the school its theme, including bagpipers, scottie dog mascot, and students are known as "Friendly Fighting Scots". The School Hymn written by Richard Packham is sung to the tune of The Bonnie Banks O' Loch Lomond.

rivalry

Ben Lomond has a long running rivalry with Ogden High School. The most intense of which, is the final foot ball game of every season called the Iron Horse game. The winner of this game gets to keep a trophy called the Iron Horse, the trophy is a small scale model of two trains crashing in to each other head on, one train reads OHS and the other BLHS, the base of the trophy is adorned with metal plats that read a year (1954-2006) and the name of the school that held that that year. The Iron Horse is currently on display in Ben Lomond's front office.

Bond

Residents of Ogden passed a bond in June 2006 to obtain money to rebuild/refurbish Ben Lomond as well as other Ogden city schools. Construction and demolition of Ben Lomond High's former media center English/freshmen wing, cermaics room, cort yard, and two JROTC class rooms completed over the summer of 2007. Reconstruction is currently under way. Portable classrooms are being used to temporarily house students/teachers in affected parts of the school.
