The Bergamo Alps (also: Bergamasque Alps; Italian: Prealpi Orobie) are a mountain range in the Italian Alps which forms part of the Central Eastern Alps. They are located in northern Lombardy and named after the city Bergamo, south of the mountains.

Geography

SOIUSA classification

According to the SOIUSA (International Standardized Mountain Subdivision of the Alps) the range is an Alpine subsection that can be classified in the following way[1]:

Borders

The Bergamo Alps stretch between Lake Como and Lake Iseo. They are separated from the Bregaglia and Bernina ranges in the north by the Adda River valley (Valtellina); from the Ortler Alps in the north-east by the Aprica Pass; from the Adamello-Presanella group in the east by the Oglio valley (Val Camonica). Towards south they are divided from the Bergamasque Prealps, a sub-range located between Bergamo Alps and the Po plain, by some secondary valleys of Val Brembana, Val Seriana and Val Camonica: Valsassina, Valtorta, Val Secca, Valcanale, Val Nembo, Val di Scalve and Val Paisco.
