According to the SOIUSA (International Standardized Mountain Subdivision of the Alps) the range is an Alpine subsection that can be classified in the following way[1]:
The Bergamo Alps stretch between Lake Como and Lake Iseo. They are separated from the Bregaglia and Bernina ranges in the north by the Adda River valley (Valtellina); from the Ortler Alps in the north-east by the Aprica Pass; from the Adamello-Presanella group in the east by the Oglio valley (Val Camonica). Towards south they are divided from the Bergamasque Prealps, a sub-range located between Bergamo Alps and the Po plain, by some secondary valleys of Val Brembana, Val Seriana and Val Camonica: Valsassina, Valtorta, Val Secca, Valcanale, Val Nembo, Val di Scalve and Val Paisco.
