Berhtwald (Brihtwald), bishop of Ramsbury 995–1045. He was one of several monks of Glastonbury who became bishops at this time; he was a generous benefactor both to his own monastery and to Malmesbury. His extraordinarily long rule seems to have earned him less fame than his prophecy and vision concerning the successor of Edward the Confessor. He was buried at Glastonbury. Feast: 22 January, local cult only.
