( b Copenhagen, 28 May 1927). Danish composer. He studied with Schierbeck and Jersild at the Copenhagen Conservatory, and worked as a church musician and choral conductor: his works include much Catholic church music. In the mid-1950s he moved from modality to serialism; some works of the 1960s use avant-garde effects and brought him international renown.
