Bertil J. Lundman (1899, Malmö – 1993) was a Swedish anthropologist. He is best known for having created a racial classification system of Europeans in his book The Races and Peoples of Europe (1977).

Theory of European races

Bertil Lundman's book The Races and Peoples of Europe distinguishes several racial types[1]:

  1. Nordid, including the subraces Falid, North Atlantid and Scando-Nordid
  2. Paleo-Atlantid
  3. West-Alpine
  4. East-Alpine (Gorid)
  5. West-Mediterranean (Ibero-Insular)
  6. Berid
  7. East-Mediterranean, including the subraces Pontid, Iranid, North-Indid, Gangid, Nesid, Saharid, Aegyptid
  8. Arabid, including the Syrid subrace
  9. Taurid, including subraces Dinarid, Armenid and Carpathid
  10. Volgid, including the subraces Sudeten and Pre-Pontid
  11. East Baltid, including the subraces Tavastid (Sub-Nordid) and Savolaxid
  12. Scando-Lappid (South-Lappid, Samid)
  13. Mongolid strains: Kumid and Taigid
