Review
Before the Impressions were Curtis Mayfield's group, they were Jerry Butler's, and while both incarnations were superb, it was Mayfield's visionary songwriting that truly earned the Impressions their current reputation. This rather lackluster set (everything included here is a re-recording and not the original version) combines the two versions of the Impressions on one short program. Unfortunately, Mayfield was no longer with the Impressions when these re-recordings were made, so while the songs are great, and it's great to have Butler aboard (if only for three or four songs), in the end this is mostly a smoke and mirrors collection. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
