Adrenoceptors subdivided into beta₁ receptors and beta₂ receptors. Stimulation of beta₁ receptors increase the rate and force of contraction of heart muscle, increasing cardiac output. Stimulation of beta₂ receptors causes bronchodilation and vasodilation of blood vessels in skeletal muscle. Stimulation of these receptors is blocked by inhibiting drugs called beta blockers.
