beta2 agonist

A drug belonging to the sympathomimetic amines that stimulate beta₂ receptors. Selective beta₂ agonists are potent bronchodilators. They are used to treat asthma and other respiratory ailments. The use of certain types of beta₂ agonists (specifically, formoterol, salbutamol at less than 1000 ng ML⁻¹, salmeterol and terbutaline) in aerosol form is permitted by the World Doping Agency, but only after a Therapeutic Use Exemption has been granted. All oral forms are prohibited.
