beta2 agonist

 

A drug belonging to the sympathomimetic amines that stimulate beta2 receptors. Selective beta2 agonists are potent bronchodilators. They are used to treat asthma and other respiratory ailments. The use of certain types of beta2 agonists (specifically, formoterol, salbutamol at less than 1000 ng ML−1, salmeterol and terbutaline) in aerosol form is permitted by the World Doping Agency, but only after a Therapeutic Use Exemption has been granted. All oral forms are prohibited.
