Bettadapura is a town located in Karnataka State, India. Sankethis who migrated from Senkottai in Tamil Nadu 600 years back first settled in this town. Bettadapura is in Mysore district and borders Coorg district.
The name of the town is derived from two Kannada words "Betta" and "pura". Betta meaning hill or mountain and pura meaning town. This town has a hill on top of which is an ancient temple of Shri Sidlu Mallikarjuna Swamy.
Bettadapura is in such a centre place, which is 65km from Hassan, 52 km from Madekeri and 85 km from Mysore. This place has Kalyana Mantap owned by Sankethi Community and is available for Sankethi functions at a nominal price.
Bettadapua's Deepavali (Devali) is of a special kind, not celebrated in any other part of India or the world. People of all caste will participate and carry the Lord Shiva, Parvathi and Ganesh around the hill, which takes almost a day, starting at 6am from the foot of the hill and completed after going round the hill, reaching back to Bettadapura by 9pm.
Bettadapura is very close to Ramantha Pura(16km) --A Famous place for Subramanya Swamy Temple and Kaveri River. It is 7 km from Chunchana Katte, another Kaveri revier bank with Rama Temple and a hydroelectric power plant.
