A mandatory bet by the player two spots to the left of the dealer (button) before the cards are dealt. The big blind (BB) dictates the minimum amount any other player must bet in order to continue in the game. The intention of the big blind is to build a pot worth competing for. Also referred to as the "live blind".
SoundPoker Says: The sky is the limit for blind values, but an example would be $5 for the small blind and $10 for the big blind. In most tournaments the blind values are typically raised at predetermined time intervals, for example every 30 minutes. This is called a "blind" because you are betting on your hand without seeing it.
