There are two record labels with the name Big Cat Records.
UK label Big Cat Records launched around 1990 that originally specialized in industrial and noise-rock releases. Operated a US office in NYC for a few years. Purchased by V2 Records in 1996, at which point their roster became much more diverse (albeit somewhat more mainstream) in style. Artists: Cop Shoot Cop, Foetus, Paul Schütze, Pavement, Lotion, Blumfeld, Experimental Audio Research, One Minute Silence, Grandaddy etc.
Big Cat Records is also an Atlanta-based hip-hop record label. They were founded in 1999 by two long time associates Melvin "Mel-Man" Breeden and Marlon Rowe. The company is currently going strong with Tommy Boy backing them as their new distributor [April 2008]. Recently [October 2008] they signed Freekey Zeekey, president of The Diplomats and longtime friend of Jim Jones. They also are in the process of working on Yung Ralph's new album and are working closely with the Artists: Gucci Mane, Freekey Zekey, Young Snead, Yung Ralph, Joker, Rasheeda, .45, Maceo, Mookie, Yatta Man, Khia. Recording artist Black Magic was murdered in July 2008.
