Biography

A brilliant Southern soul singer, Florida's Big John Hamilton had a voice to match his name and practically defines the concept of obscurity. Hamilton cut eight solo 45s as well as a couple of duets with Doris Allen (including an interesting version of Buddy Miles' "Them Changes") for Florida's Minaret Records label between 1967 and 1970, few of which had any impact outside of the region. Sundazed Records finally collected all of these on a single CD in 2006 as How Much Can a Man Take. The powerful title tune, from 1968, occasionally shows up on soul collections and is a true gem. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
