Biography

One of the more mysterious figures in post-war blues, Big Mac was an otherwise anonymous truck driver from Arkansas who cut exactly one session that anyone knows about, recording "Rough Dried Woman" in a session with Hubert Sumlin for Stan Lewis' Jewel label during the mid-'60s. The song, co-authored by Chicago producer Don Clay, was originally supposed to be an instrumental featuring drummer Willie Williams, but Big Mac, lacking just a little depth in his voice, almost turned it into a sub-Howlin' Wolf workout with Sumlin in the foreground for the second half on the B-side. Mac left the session and was never heard from again, so far as anyone knows. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
