This is a home poker game where players only receive one hole card. An
ante
(which should be quite small for this game) is placed into the pot.
Each player is then dealt one card face down. After looking at
their card, the player to the left of the dealer starts the play by
choosing to be "in" or "out". After moving around the table the
players who are "in" show their cards. The player with the highest card
gets to keep there card, which is left face up. The losing players in
that hand have to match the amount of money which is in the pot,
and their cards are thrown away. The deck is then passed on to person
the the left of the original dealer and they deal each person a card
and so on. The first
player with three cards face up wins the pot.
SoundPoker Says: In this specific game an Ace is the highest card in the deck. If two
players both show the same card then the winning hand is decided by the
suit. The order of rank for suits is alphabetically backwards, so spades are best, then hearts, then diamonds, and then clubs.
Usually 5 or 6 players is ideal for this game, but it can be played
with more or less. When there is a lot of action in this game it can be
quite expensive as the pot keeps growing. For example, 5
players each ante $1. Two players are in with Player X holding the king of
spades and Player Z holding the king of clubs. Player X wins and Player Z
matches the $5 ante to make the pot $10. Next hand Player X is
against Players Q and P. Player X wins with the Ace of spades.
Subsequently Players Q and P each have to put $10 into the pot bringing
the total to $30. Next hand player X goes in and everyone else folds.
Player X wins the pot of $30.
