Bill Ellis (born January 3, 1950) is an American folklorist. Educated at the University of Virginia (BA, 1972) and at Ohio State University (MA, 1973, Ph.D, 1978), he is currently professor emeritus of English and American studies at Penn State University.
He was the president of the International Society for Contemporary Legend Research and the American Folklore Society's Folk Narrative section. He is also a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He is mainly known as a specialist of satanism in contemporary culture. Ellis studied also conspiracy theories involving Luciferian plots, occult forces and aliens.
