Billboard

The theatrical trade sheet was first published in Cincinnati in 1894. Begun as a monthly, it became a weekly in 1900. With increasing competition from New York–based publications, it soon began to emphasize amateur theatre, carnivals, and circuses. In recent decades its main concern has been the popular music field. For many years, starting in 1920, it published an annual Billboard Index of the Legitimate Stage.
