Computer Desktop Encyclopedia: binaries newsgroups

A newsgroup hierarchy designed to let people post graphics. Unlike Web sites, no one controls newsgroups, so people use the binaries newsgroups to "express" themselves, and you never know what you will find. Images are typically in .GIF or .JPG format, but because newsgroups can only handle text, images are stored in the text-based UUencoded format. Most browsers have built-in UUcode converters, so you can go to an alt.binaries newsgroup, download it in UUencoded format, look at it and save it to disk.
