[Bureau International des Poids et Mesures]

The world bureau for ‘weights and measures’, established by the International Convention of the Metre in 1875. Situated in the Paris suburb of Sèvre, supervised by the CIPM, and under the policy and dictates of the CGPM, it administers the various elements of the metric system, now solely in the form of the SI.
