Biography

Birdie, composed of Paul Kelly and Deborah Wykes, or Debsey, is a charming indie rock duo that formed in the mid-'90s after collaborations with Saint Etienne. Both members had previous musical jaunts, however. London native Wykes opened for the likes of the Fall, the Jam, and the Undertones while fronting her band the Dolly Mixture. Kelly, known for his stint with East Village, also shared a label with the U.K.'s golden boys the Manic Street Preachers. Six years on as friends, a sweet innocence was cast by Birdie, quaintly captured on their Kindercore debut entitled Some Dusty, which was issued in fall 2000. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
