BirdLife International
BirdLife International (formerly known as the International Council for Bird Preservation) is the international
conservation organization working to protect the world’s birds and their habitats. It is a global conservation federation with a worldwide network of Partner organizations, including
the RSPB, the
BirdLife International was founded in 1922 by Gilbert Pearson and Jean Theodore Delacour as the International Council for Bird Preservation. This lobbying group fell into disuse after World War II. It became active again in 1983 with the appointment of a professional director, and changed its name in 1993 to Birdlife International.
BirdLife International is the official Red List Authority for birds for the IUCN.
The current president is Princess Takamado of Japan. Past presidents include Queen Noor of Jordan.
