The Bishopric of Cornwall was created in about 833 AD. The later Bishops of Cornwall were sometimes referred to as the Bishops of St Germans. In 1050, Cornwall was merged with the Bishopric of Crediton and the Episcopal see was transferred to Exeter.[1]

In 1050, Bishop Leofric transferred the united sees of Cornwall and Crediton to Exeter.[3]
