Black Book Club
The Black Book Club (BBC) is a group of people in the manga and anime series YuYu Hakusho. In the English dub and subtitled versions, they're referred to as the Black Black Club.
The BBC, is a small club of five, mostly elderly, men, including the major enemy Sakyo. Each of the members are extremely rich, making very high bets on even small gambling. They are a major force in the series, causing many events to happen despite only a handful of appearances. Each of the members are very greedy and evil people, and formed the organization for their own needs.
Goals
The main goal of the BBC is, simply put, a hole in between the human and demon planes. It will act as a tunnel, allowing demons to get to the human world and humans to get to the demon world. Due to most natural holes being random, most holes are artificial ones that are only fist-sized, can only work for lesser demons, and cost 20 billion yen, they have no choice but to make their own working one. They plan on using the hole to bring the stronger demons into the human plane to wreck havoc. They have tried this several times apparently, but each time has failed.
They also have the goal of getting huge sums of money. Although they are already rich, they plan to get enough money so they could finance the plan for the hole they want, making their sum of money a mere backup plan for their main goal to lean on. They also use the money for other reasons too, such as gambling.
Feast of Human Vices
A strange ritualistic action the BBC created that is completely inhuman. They have humans cruelly torture demons, and possibly kill them afterwards. The humans then bathe in their blood, to show their sense of twisted enjoyment. Shinobu Sensui once witnessed this and went entirely mentally insane.
Role in the Story
The BBC has had only a few moments and references, but they still are an important moving force. They are a major moving force, causing several of the moments in the series to have happened.
Several years before the start of the series, presumably around 10 years ago, the Black Book Club, Sakyo included, opened a portal between the human a demon planes. They used this portal to lure demons into the world of humans, and once they did so, sold them as bodyguards. The then Spirit Detective Shinobu Sensui was ordered by Koenma to close the portal. Sensui caught the BBC off guard, but then witnessed a sight he wished he never saw. The BBC had at that time ordered a Feast of Human Vices, an act that drove Sensui insane. In rage, he killed all of the humans, and began to question humanity.
In the present storyline, when Yukina had been kidnapped by associate Gonzo Tarukane and Yusuke Urameshi and Kazuma Kuwabara were sent to rescue her, the BBC had its introduction. Gonzo made several bets with the BBC over who would win, the rescuers or Gonzo's minions. Most of the BBC members bet on Gonzo's minions, but Sakyo kept betting on the two boys. After several bets and battles, and thanks to Team Toguro's members Younger Toguro and Elder Toguro's interventions, the boys rescued Yukina, and Sakyo gained over 60 trillion yen. After everyone left, Sakyo ordered Younger Toguro to kill Gonzo.
Two months later, during the Dark Tournament, Sakyo had entered Team Toguro, which he was a member of, into the tournament, possibly by orders of the BBC, so that he would use his wish and prize money, if his team won, to create the hole between the human and demon planes. It seemed almost that they would succeed, but it was only through the fights in the Final Ronuds against Team Urameshi that they failed. With Karasu and Younger Toguro dead, Edler Toguro at unknown whereabouts, Bui not wanting to continue fighting, and Sakyo losing a bet he staked his life on, Sakyo blew up the arena, killing himself in the process.
Unknown to the BBC, though, their plans were taken over by Shinobu Sensui. Unlike the BBC, however, Sensui instead wanted to use the hole to punish the human plane, which he had believed was evil, corrupt, and selfish after witnessing the Feast of Human Vices. Sensui was stopped by Yusuke Urameshi and Raizen, though, ending the plan for a portal for the moment.
After Enki had become winner of the Makai Tournament and leader of the demon plane, he decreaed a law stating demons are forbidden to cause trouble in the human plane. Although this certainly will decrease the number of plans the BBC makes, there is still the possibility of a demon law-breaker choosing to side with the BBC.
People
Members
Although only one member has been named, we have seen the other four members when Gonzo spoke with the BBC, who were projected on TVs.
- Sakyo - The only named member, he was the main villain of the Dark Tournament Saga and, almost, succeeded in creating the hole, but failed in the end. He is currently dead, and his replacement, if he has one, has yet to be seen. He was also the one who ordered Gonzo dead. He was the leader of Team Toguro before his death and the deaths of most members.
- Unnamed member - Most likely the oldest member and possibly the leader, if there is one, he appeared with the other members during Gonzo's talks with the BBC. He is bald and had a dot on his forehead, most likely for religious purposes.
- Gondawara - The owner of Team Rokuyukai, he doesn't do much research and pays the price.
- Butujiri - The owner of Team Masho, he is killed by Toguro when he cheated several times.
Associates
The BBC, apparently, has a large number of associates, each of them extremely wealthy. They commonly make bets with the BBC. Only one has been introduced.
- Gonzo Tarukane - the one who kidnapped Yukina, he is a rather ugly trillionare who made several bets with the BBC regarding her rescuers. He was ordered to be killed by Sakyo.
