Review

An impressive debut from a new duo from London, the Kills' Black Rooster EP opens up with a Sleater-Kinney-like rock number, "Cat Claw," that hits its mark. The next number, "Black Rooster," sounds a bit like the Velvet Underground and could be a completely different band. It's a pretty rollicking start for a new group. Both singers, the guy and girl team of VV and Hotel, have their own distinctive, stylish voice and they sound great together. Their music has a fair amount of sexiness and the listener will undoubtedly want to hear more. But there's only four songs here and the second two are fine, but don't live up to the potential of the first two. Who knows? This could be a great band. Certainly, from this EP alone, folks will want to check them out live. But their first full-length will likely give a more accurate picture of what they're about. ~ Adam Bregman, All Music Guide
