Blair County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is part of the Altoona, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2000, the population was 129,144. It was created on February 26, 1846, from parts of Huntingdon and Bedford Counties. Its county seat is Hollidaysburg[1].

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 527 square miles (1,365 km²), of which, 526 square miles (1,362 km²) of it is land and 1 square miles (3 km²) of it (0.25%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 129,144 people, 51,518 households, and 34,877 families residing in the county. The population density was 246 people per square mile (95/km²). There were 55,061 housing units at an average density of 105 per square mile (40/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.61% White, 1.19% Black or African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 0.51% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 40.0% were of German, 12.2% Irish, 10.7% Italian, 9.9% American and 6.0% English ancestry according to Census 2000.

There were 51,518 households out of which 29.30% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.60% were married couples living together, 11.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.30% were non-families. 27.80% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the county, the population was spread out with 22.70% under the age of 18, 8.90% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 17.40% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.50 males.
