Blanc Fumé

[blahn (blahngk) foo-MAY] Around the village of Pouilly-sur-Loire, in the central part of France's loire region, Blanc Fumé is the name used for the sauvignon blanc grape. Wine from this grape is usually labeled pouilly-fumé ac but, occasionally, Blanc Fumé de Pouilly AC. Blanc is French for "white," fumé means "smoke," and it's said the name comes from the smoky (also known as flinty) quality of these wines.
