Plot

When speaking of Laurel and Hardy's first feature film Pardon Us, Stan Laurel described it as "a three-story building on a one-story base"-in other words, a 2-reeler stretched and bloated into 6 reels. Much the same could be said of Blake Edwards's Blind Date, though one wonders if Stan Laurel could have even gotten two reels out of its wafer-thin premise. At the outset, yuppie Bruce Willis is warned not to let his blind date, southern belle Kim Basinger, drink anything stronger than lemonade. So what does Willis do the first chance he gets? That's right, kids; he plies poor Basinger with champagne. And then he wonders why his life rapidly goes to hell in a handbasket. In his first starring movie role, Bruce Willis manages to find all sorts of nuances in his one-note role, while Kim Basinger is very funny when she's blotto-at least, for the first five minutes or so. John Laroquette costars as a character straight out of a 1920s bedroom farce; he's also pretty good, even though his dialogue is numbingly unamusing. Blake Edwards is famous for his ability to make a lot out of a little...but there has to be a limit somewhere. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Blind Date is a 1987 comedy/romance film, directed by Blake Edwards and starring Kim Basinger and Bruce Willis. The film was originally intended for the recently married Madonna and Sean Penn, but both backed out at the last minute. It was Willis' film debut — his character in the film was deliberately written so as to be different from the character he had played in the TV series Moonlighting.

Plot

Walter Davis (Bruce Willis) allows his brother, Ted (Phil Hartman) to set him up on a blind date with his wife's cousin, Nadia (Kim Basinger). Nadia is quiet and shy and the two experience some awkwardness with each other. However, as the evening goes on, Nadia begins to drink and behave in a wild manner. To make matters worse, Nadia's jealous ex-boyfriend and stalker, David, (John Larroquette) exacerbates the situation by stalking the couple all night. Walter ends up driven insane by Nadia's mishaps, wreaking havoc at Nadia's friend's party and getting arrested after menacing David with a female mugger's revolver (Walter forces David to do the moonwalk before firing at the frightened man's feet.) Nadia posts $10,000 in bail for Walter and agrees to marry David if he will help Walter escape prison time. Walter attempts to stop the wedding. Chaos ensues.
