blind headline

Marketing Dictionary: blind headline

headline having no discernible meaning to the reader unless the copy that follows is read. For example, "Roses Are Red" could be intended to advertise anything from lipstick to garden tools but fails to communicate its intention to the reader. Good copy usually avoids blind headlines, unless a special effect is desired.
