Review

Bliss, by Mathias Grassow, is a perfect example of pleasant "refrigerator hum." Grassow is known as the king of the ambient drone and, in this case, refrigerator hum is a compliment. The deep drone actually surrounds and carries the other elements of this wide-open atmosphere. The soundscape is full of holes and -- at times -- is completely empty except for the persistent hum of the even-tempered drone. That description makes it sound like this CD is bland or boring. Indeed, to some, it might be. But deep listeners and meditators will find this to be the perfect "om." There are no vocal chants; listeners must provide those. This is a good CD from Herr Grassow. It is not his best but it will appeal to fans of the style. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
