Review

Blues for a Mellow Afternoon combines 11 laid-back tracks by modern blues artists signed with Tone Cool Records including Susan Tedeschi, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Alvin Youngblood Hart. The sampler's brightest moments appear with three interesting interpretations of "In a Sentimental Mood," Mark Hummel "Sugar in My Bowl," Toni Lynn Washington, and "Some of These Days," Paul Rishell and Annie Raines. While the packaging is drab, the music successfully fulfills the promise of the title at a budget price. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
