German family of sculptors and stonemasons active in Sweden. Henrik [Heinrich] Blume (b Bremen; d Stockholm, July 1648) arrived in Sweden c. 1621. He was responsible for the south portal (1644) of the church of St Jakob in Stockholm, in which he combined a classical columnar arrangement with a rich figure programme and the almost organic scrolls characteristic of contemporary German patterns. He also contributed (1637) to the sculpture at the Royal Palace, Stockholm, and executed (from the designs of other artists) portals and mixed sculpted work at the castles of the Oxenstierna family at Tid? in V?stmanland and Fiholm in S?dermanland (1638-43; in situ). Henrik Blume's brother Didrik Blume (b Bremen; d Stockholm, Feb 1668) arrived in Sweden in the early 1630s and contributed decorative work to the Stockholm palaces of Jakob De la Gardie (1583-1652; see DE LA GARDIE, MAGNUS GABRIEL) and Lennart Torstensson (1603-51). Of the two portals (c. 1647-8; in situ) of the Torstensson building, one is a martial composition of banded Doric columns surmounted by lions and heraldic shields.
