Robert Paul Allen (born November 14, 1978) is a free-agent American hockey defenceman who last played at the professional ice hockey level in 2007–08 season for the Boston Bruins.
Allen was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts and currently lives in Hingham, Massachusetts with his wife Natalie, a teacher at Hingham High School, and baby daughter. He played for Boston College, from which he was selected fifty-second in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. He was subsequently traded to the Edmonton Oilers on the 2002 trade deadline, in exchange for Sean Brown. He has spent the majority of his professional career in the American Hockey League, although he did play one game for the Oilers in 2002–2003. On July 22, 2004 he signed as a free agent by the New Jersey Devils.
On July 17 2006, Allen was signed as a free agent by the Boston Bruins, where he played the majority of the 2006–07 season with Boston's American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins. He played his first game with Boston on January 17, 2007 against the Buffalo Sabres.
