Buddhism Dictionary:

bodhicittotpāda

(Sanskrit, the arising of the thought of awakening). The point at the beginning of the Bodhisattva path when the aspiration to become a Bodhisattva in order to save sentient beings wells up in the heart. This arising of bodhicitta is thus a kind of conversion experience that leads to a transformed outlook on the world.
