A group of scholars, named after the Fleming Jean Bolland (1596-1665); mainly Jesuits, they were responsible for publishing lives of the saints [see Hagiography] in over 50 volumes of Acta sanctorum between 1643 and 1794. They were reconstituted in Belgium in 1837 and have continued their work, in an increasingly scholarly spirit.
