Biography
Though a Louisiana native, Vernon Harrison has been associated with the Detroit blues sound as long as anyone. A Motor City resident since 1927, he began performing in the local clubs as a teenager. As a sideman he worked locally with Sonny Boy Williamson, Baby Boy Warren, and John Lee Hooker. Despite Red's renown for the blues and boogie-woogie style that earned him his nickname, he has recorded only a few times as a featured artist, and aside from a bit of European touring in the '70s, he has remained a local Detroit treasure, rarely appearing outside the area. ~ Jim O'Neal, RoviWikipedia on Answers.com:

Boogie Woogie Red (October 18, 1925 - July 2, 1992)[2] was an American Detroit blues, boogie-woogie and jazz pianist, singer and songwriter.[1] He variously worked with Sonny Boy Williamson, Washboard Willie, Baby Boy Warren, Lonnie Johnson, Tampa Red, John Lee Hooker and Memphis Slim.[2]

Biography
He was born Vernon Harrison in Rayville, Louisiana,[2] moving to Detroit in 1927.[1] In his adolescence he began performing in local clubs, and went on to work alongside Sonny Boy Williamson, Baby Boy Warren and John Lee Hooker.[1]
In the mid 1970s, Red used to play solo piano at the Blind Pig, a small bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He recorded his own albums in 1974 and 1977, and toured Europe that same decade.[1] Red appeared on BBC Television's Old Grey Whistle Test in May 1973.[3] However most of Red's work was completed within Illinois.[1]
He died in Detroit, in July 1992, at the age of 66.[2]
