Bosanski Brod (Serbian Cyrillic: Босански Брод) is a town and municipality located on the right bank of the river Sava in the northern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated in the north-western part of the Republika Srpska ("RS") and the western part of the Posavina region.

Name

During the Bosnian war the town name was changed to Srpski Brod but after the war the name was ruled unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was changed back to Bosanski Brod.

In May 2009, the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska ("RS") changed the name to simply Brod. This has led Bosniaks living in the RS entity to file a judicial protest stating that changing the city's name endangers the vital national interests of the local Bosniak community; the outcome of this lawsuit is still pending.[citation needed]

The Croatian town of Slavonski Brod is situated on the opposite (northern) bank of the Sava.
